The past year has been a difficult one for PEO.  The current PEO leadership has spent our money on frivolous things like a legal opinion to determine who gets to chair Council meetings.  The amount of money is considerable and the benefit was negligible.  This, along with the President's inability to negotiate a new agreement with OSPE has led to the sad state of affairs we see today.  How much money was spent on the referendum?  Was it really necessary to take that step if the leadership was better suited to negotiating the respective roles?
We can do better.  My campaign is for effective leadership which can bring accountability back to PEO Council.

Issues:
 1.     No accountability regarding the expenditure of PEO funds.  The problem has persisted for years:  the purchase of the PEO headquarters building; then, upgrading the building to meet our standards; the money spent on legal fees regarding the President’s role; the sole-source hiring of an “Executive Analyst,” and so on.  Where is the oversight to ensure our money isn’t being wasted?  The drastic drop in our reserve fund has to be rectified.  The financial bleeding from our ownership of the building has to be stopped.
2.     Council leadership is weak and nothing gets accomplished.  This petty bickering is wasteful.  The embarrassment to our profession will continue until the acrimony ends.  The President should set the agenda and develop the culture to make Council function.
3.     Challenges we face without any go-forward plan.  One of the biggest challenges we face as a profession is the incorporation of many thousands of previously unlicensed engineers due to the repeal of the “industrial exception.”  Has PEO taken any steps to answer that challenge?  Not that I can see.   Has Council even examined this issue?  If so, why hasn’t Council shared the go-forward plan with the rest of us?
4.    No coherent and comprehensive succession plan.  Council doesn’t have a successful outreach program to engage younger engineers.  Succession planning seems to be an afterthought at best.  It’s time to overhaul PEO’s volunteer program and to find ways to allow younger engineers to become more fully engaged in PEO governance.   Even worse is Council’s plan to appropriate funds meant for the Chapters.  Starving the Chapters works against the engagement of engineers.  How did your Councillor vote on this issue?
5.    It’s time to respect the referendum about OSPE.  In the referendum, engineers were clear that it's time for OSPE to be independent of PEO.  A new working relationship with an independent OSPE will be best for both organizations.  The President needs to accept the result of the referendum.
6.   It's time to get more financial expertise on Finance Committee.  This will improve financial oversight to provide members value for money.
